for a who is likely to move on this in the senate? olympia snowe? lugar? scott brown? >> i think you have identified the usual suspects. the problem republicans have is this -- you have people like scott brown in massachusetts, linda lackl, a twice-elected governor of hawaii, running for the senate, and other wilson in new mexico, who were good statewide candidates with good credentials who lost for one reason, they had (r) next to their name. this is an albatross. this is a problem for republicans to deal with, and the president knows he has an advantage and the republicans have to get beyond this is a day are going to become competitive. >> any wiggle room in the house, charles? >> i don't understand when colby says for the president raising rates is a matter of principle. there was no principle involved. obama himself said at a briefing in july 2011 press conference that you can raise the $1.20 trillion that he wanted at the time without raising rates, by doing it by eliminating deductions and exclusions, which is the more rational way. obama's, and debt reduction commission had recomm

that jerry brown is going to run for re-election. he's one of the three governors that served as the youngest governor of their state and the oldest governor of their state. if he's in office in 2014 maybe we'll see a clinton/brown rematch. >> what did you learn today? >> that the democrats are not so optimistic about new jersey. they are optimistic about virginia it seems. but sandy seemed to be a good thing for chris christie. >> and also politics in virginia leading up to the attorney general who the governor may run as an independent. >> the attorney general who traditionally waits his turn, moves up to luents governor and then moves up to governor, a guy who is a big dialing of the conservative fan base and the republican party in virginia. the luents governor is set up to run for governor four years ago then had to wait another attorney general. he is not happy about this. he is -- according to "the washington examiner" he is thinking about running as an independent. the committee chairman, the clirn fundraiser would be the governor of virginia. if you would have told me that five years

after a car accident that killed cowboys linebacker jerry brown, a member of the team's practice squad. police are saying that this accident happened about 2:20 this morning in the dallas suburb of irving, texas. officers at the scene were being told -- officers at the scene believed that alcohol was a contributing factor in that crash. he was asked to perform some field sobriety tests. based on the result of those tests along with the officers' observations and some conversations, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. this is developing news out of texas. dallas cowboys defensive lineman josh brint facing an intoxication manslaughter charge. linebacker jerry brown, a member of that team's practice squad, is dead. at this point no comment from the cowboys team as of yet. more on the story as we continue to gather more information right here on msnbc. you ever notice that some people just have a knack for giving the perfect gift? they put real thought into it. and find just... the right...thing. how do they do that? more saving. more doing. that's the power of the home depot. p

to have diversity with women or black or red or yellow or brown or white if you have no relationships. and if i don't know the chairman of the republican national committee, i have no confidence that he has any relationship with chuck roast black guy, with billfold working white guy, with joe six pack hispanic. if i don't know him and i don't is say that to be self-serving. i just say that to point out how perplexing this when we think we can get people to vote for us if we don't know them. >> let's look at your bio. you were a member of congress from oklahoma for eight years. legislated chairman of the house republican conference, the fourth ranking leadership position and now, the chairman of a communications and public affairs company. you've had a long history in the republican party and as a manager and our peter hamby, he reported this about what the news of you rubbing for rnc chair was greeted with. he said he was met with a mix of quote skepticism, dispolice chief and even a hint of ridicule. do you believe it is racially driven? >> i don't. i think this. i think every single

stage. we turn to a guy who knows a thing or two about your red steve brown. >> yes, some days are better than others. we are at this brewery in chicago. so many in the city are saying array for beer. chicago. >> we try to drink a lot of beer. the beer drinker is becoming more educated and diverse. reporter: there is a lot more of a craft brewing boom. >> people in the midwest are grounded in that way. reporter: tony mcgee is the founder and ceo of a brewing company, is transferring this into a large remaking operation. >> this will serve people all the way from denver to key west. reporter: another new brewery, dry hop, also plans the same thing. >> it has absolutely been exploding. boater so much so, getting a complete count is tough. we have identified 46 craft breweries open or planning to open by next year, and that is just now. >> i've expected to double in chicago. possibly triple. reporter: part of the brewing culture is north america's oldest brewing school. 144 years old. it outlived both the great chicago fire and television, which was repealed 79 years ago. today. j

and allegedly speeding, car hit the curb and flipped, skidded. and linebacker jerry brown was taken to a hospital and he was pronounced dead. who says no such thing as a free lunch? is the federal government giving new york schools to 30 million dollars to help school lunches and it's supposed to help hurricane sandy and it's spent on kids. the program leaves out long island and new jersey children. clayton? >> let's talk football. >> alisyn: let's do it. >> clayton: i am. it was billed as america's game yesterday. the army-navy showdown a classic. vice-president biden gets things underway with a coin toss and navy would open up the scoring, not to be outdone, army comes right back, and the quarterback with the 11 yard up the middle keeper there. and just out to the fourth. and navy down three, they go ahead with four minutes to go. and then two minutes left and as if things weren't tight enough. army with the winning score and they hand off and navy recovers with a 17-13 win and so broken up, crying, he had to be consoled by four star general, and navy has now beaten army. and you

the football from charlie brown. the president is now asking for twice the amount of increase in taxes that he campaigned on. really, the proposal that tim geithner brought to capitol hill is one that i believe the democrats one-point even support if put to a voight. the increase in taxes in over $200,000 of income, the incredible increase in change to the death tax, wanting to have a new credit card with no credit limit to the president so he can additionally just borrow and spend and tax? you go through all of these things. it really never deals with the fumblefundamental problem in our country which is the spending. our problem is not that we're taxed too little, we just continue to spend too much. >> he is asking that the debt ceiling that he has sole control over and how much the debt ceiling can be raised without having to get permission from capitol hill. i mean, those two things he had to know were going to be non-starters with the republicans and maybe with some democrats, so i mean, maybe you're right that he deliberately is trying to move the goal posts so that there is no deal that

feel like is a little bit like charlie brown running to kick the football and lucy pulls it away. ultimately, it's a spending problem. the american people know it. this talk of taxes is almost irrelevant to the size of the trillions and trillions of debt. >> but not to the president's negotiating position. senator coburn, you say, senator, that you could sign on to a tax rate increase provided that the president and the democrats come forward with significant spending cuts and entitlement reform. what will it take for you to sign on to a tax rate increase? >> well, significant entitlement reform. the real problem, the president is proposing 7% of the solution. what we ought to be working on the other 93%. even if you do what he wants to do on tax rates, you only affect 7% of the deficit. what we have done is, we have spend ourselves into a hole and we're not going to raise taxes, borrow money and get out of it. will i accept a tax increase as a part of a deal to actually solve our problems? yes. but the president is negotiating with the wrong people. he needs to be negotiating wi

performances of a charlie brown christmas because, did you know it's too religious? >> i guess i really don't know what christmas is all about. >> isn't there anyone who knows what christmas is all about? >> gretchen: well, some elementary school students were supposed to see the christmas classic at a church in little rock, arkansas, but an atheist group threatened to sue the school district because of the play's religious content. the church tells fox news it canceled the show so the district wouldn't get in trouble. you see, this is what happens, folks. cause schools can't afford these lawsuits. but they invited all the students to see a weekend performance instead. i don't remember anything religious about that show whatsoever. what could it possibly be? >> they do sing "hark the herald angels sing." >> gretchen: gosh, that's so horrible. >> brian: what did dinus do again? >> gretchen: he carried a blanket. >> steve: they also quote the bible. >> brian: an officer risks his own life to save a dog. he ran out on the ice while chasing ducks. his owner said the dog looked down and just fro

car or natural gas-powered car and you see what happens. senator brown alexander has been a real leader in this and he even has an electric car. he is going the distance here, walking the walk. that's the kind of thing government can do. government can do a lot on the regulatory side to slow things down if you forget to have effective cost-benefit analysis, but it can do a lot on the project side to really find something that works and the community becomes the laboratory for change and that others can then model. you do not have to do it everywhere and if you can show in water to a location that there really work. that is the driving force behind the idea of that lamar has been a significant spokesperson for. >> do like that car? >> i do like it. i have driven my leaf. i live in this building in a plug in the wall when i go home at night. that's all i have to do. deployment communities are a good idea. sometimes the government can have a demonstration project that makes a difference. they did a hydraulic factory and we have had fracking are around forever. three things made a di
